From the West:

Take your best route to Interstate 76 (Schuykill Expressway) East. If coming from the Pennsylvania Turnpike you will exit at Valley Forge. Remain on I-76 into Philadelphia. Once past the City Line Ave. and Roosevelt Blvd. interchanges you want to be in the center lane. Boat House Row and the Philadelphia Art Museum will be on your left. Check out our spectacular skyline while you’re at it. Stay in the center lane. When I-76 and I-676 branch you will want to follow the signs for South Philadelphia and Philadelphia International Airport. You will now be in the left lane. The first exit after the I-676 split is South Street. It is a left lane exit. Take this exit, at the top of the exit ramp make a left turn and follow form * below.

From the South:

Take your best route to Interstate 95 North. As you are passing the Philadelphia International Airport make sure you are in the right lane. There will be signs for the center city exit that you should take. Once on the exit ramps there will be a number of merges from the airport, continue to move into the right hand lane. Follow the signs for Center City Phila. and the George C. Platt Bridge. Cross the bridge. On the down side of the bridge make sure you are in the left lane. At the light at the bottom of the bridge make a left turn. This will merge you onto I-76, the Schuykill Expressway. Get into the left-hand lane as quickly as possible and take the South Street exit. At the top of the exit ramp make a right turn and follow from * below.

From the North:

Take your best route to Interstate 95 in Pennsylvania. Take I-95 into Philadelphia. Past the Girard St. exit I-95 become 3 or 4 lanes depending on construction and repair. The exit after Girard will be the combined exits for the Philadelphia Historic area and Interstate 676. Once into this exit you need to stay to the left to get onto I-676. Note, I-676 is very short, its only about 2 miles long and picks up and drops the right hand lane a couple of times. You need to stay to the right. At the terminus of I-676 you must be in the right lane, as this will merge you onto Interstate 76 (Schuykill Expressway) south. Once on I-76 East / South get into the left hand lane immediately. The first exit is South Street, which is a left hand exit, take this exit. At the top of the ramp make a left and follow from * below.

From the East (New Jersey):

Take your best route to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Once in Philadelphia follow the signs for Interstate 676 / Vine Street Expressway. You will be on city streets for a very short period. You want to get onto I-676. You need to stay to the right. At the terminus of I-676 you must be in the right lane, as this will merge you onto Interstate 76 (Schuykill Expressway) south. Once on I-76 south get into the left-hand lane immediately. The first exit is South Street, which is a left hand exit, take this exit. At the top of the ramp make a left and follow from * below.

* You will be crossing over the Schuykill River at this point. Caution. At the bottom of the South Street Bridge there is one killer of a sink manhole cover just after you go through the stoplight. Hit it wrong and you will rattle your suspension and brains. So, if you hit that light and are in the left lane, stay as hard left after the light as you can. Proceed down South Street. You will be going east. Notice our lighting and specialty stores at the stoplights. At around 23rd Street you want to be in the right hand lane. At 21st Street make a right turn. Kater Street is the immediate left turn on the half block! 2035 will be about a half block down on your left. There is no number on the house. Look for the carved wood door and stained glass in the transom window above the door. Now about parking. You might get lucky and find something on Kater depending on the day and time you arrive. If not, your best bets are to make the left turn at 20th and Kater, go to the second light, make a left turn onto Lombard Street, one block to 21st Street and make a left. Cross over South Street and at the next stop sign (Bainbridge Street) make a left and check there. The city is very much a grid and you can tool around the immediate area until you find something. Out of towners… leave nothing visible in the car.
